Oklahoma City’s KOCO News 5 aired an exclusive in-the-studio interview with Bryan last night. You can watch the interview on KOCO’s website.
Dan Thomas sat down with Bryan at Evermind Studio for a “tell-all interview” as well as listen to cuts from Bryan’s newly released Christmas EP “Songs for the Season.”
“If I could sum it up, I am no longer Color Me Badd, I’m Color Me Dadd,” Bryan says of his life since the days in CMB. At one point Bryan is asked point blank if he thinks it is “okay to beat women,” a question addressing the latest round of TMZ-ing stemming from a recent court appearance (from a 2010 incident). “Is that what you are?”
“No, I’m not a woman beater,” answers Bryan definitively. “I do not think it’s ok to beat women.”
He goes on to say, “I have an addiction. I’m a binge drinker. I don’t drink everyday. I’ve struggled with it for most of my life. And so I’ve gotten into some trouble in the past, through drinking. I’m still with the same woman and she’s not the kind of woman that would put up with that kind of crap anyway.”
None of this is news; Bryan’s struggles with alcohol abuse is well documented. What IS teased at the end of the interview is the non-profit charity that is in the beginning stages of coming together. We will have more details on that here at bryanabramsmusic.com, as well as a pending announcement on another related bit if business.
Head to the Contest section for details on how YOU could be featured on an album cover with Bryan Abrams! Or at least, an illustrated “elf” version of you!

“Songs for the Season” is Bryan’s first ever collection of Christmas tunes. Featuring two original songs and a classic cover (plus a remix), the EP is available as a digital download at CDBaby.com, and will (as of this writing) soon be available on iTunes, Amazon MP3, and just about every other digital outlet you can think of. We will of course keep you posted as outlets go live with the release.
The EP is Bryan’s first official solo release since leaving Color Me Badd earlier this year. Says Bryan, “Color Me Badd never released any Christmas music, and it was always something I really wanted to do. The timing was right, coming out of that, to jump in and do it. These songs are for the fans, plain and simple.”
Longtime friend and producer Hamza Lee produced the tracks at Evermind Studio, and songs feature Bryan’s “right hand man” Jayson Albright (as the rapping Elf Elf Cool J) on “Elf Anthem” and his daughters Kadence and Kai-lee on “Home Again Christmas.” Says Bryan, “Its Christmas! That means family, man, so I wanted to bring a little bit of that to the tracks. Having the girls on a song with me is really special. That was cool having them in the studio and seeing their excitement recording.”
The Scoop on the songs:
The funky elf tune was built from the ashes of a song Bryan originally wrote as a potential Color Me Badd track. “The original was the history of CMB, our story in song form,” explains Bryan. “Jay comes up to me after a plane ride and says, ‘You know, that song could be about elves.’ And the song took off form there!”
Home Again Christmas:
“That song is from my perspective back in the Color Me Badd days. We were always on the road, always away from home on the holidays. That longing to be with the ones you love, that’s where the song is coming from.”
O Holy Night:
“That has always been one of my favorite Christmas tunes and that particular arrangement is so iconic. I wanted to try and put my spin on it.”
